Gufw is designed for and included in Ubuntu. It is a basic GUI for ufw (Uncomplicated Firewall). Granted, for most desktop users the default configuration for iptables, Linux’s built-in firewall, provides pretty good coverge. However, if you wish to customize rules and allow particular ports incoming or outgoing access it can be a daunting task. This is where Gufw is nice. The package for ufw and Gufw can be downloaded from the Intrepid Ubuntu repocitories and installed on a Debian Lenny system.

sudo dpkg -i ufw_0.23.2_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i gufw_0.20.6-0ubuntu1_all.deb

Once installed Firewall Configuration will be available in your settings menu (for XFCE) and you can enable the fire wall and allow specific ports if needed.
